With JD Illumination Textures, Volume 2, I am continuing what I stared with Volume 1: Creating textures that challenge the notion of what a texture is "supposed" to be able to do and making textures easy for newbies to integrate while still making an impact. Seasoned textures users will enjoy adding them to their workflow because they pop color and contrast but don't take a lot of time to tweak. These textures will work well for virtually any subject matter - boudoir, newborn, families, and nature photographs.To see 1/2 of the textures (I picked some warm versions, some cool versions) please click here.

• JD Illumination Textures, Vol. 2 comes with 25 all-new textures for Photoshop and Elements, plus two bonus textures that were specifically re-created for vertical positioning. As with JD Illuminations One, I also offer a second take on each texture by having it available in both warm and cool tones*. Combined, there are a grand total of 52 textures.These textures are available for $35 USD.

• All textures are high resolution, 60 x 40 inches at 72 dpi. ( FYI - Some people see the 72 dpi and are concerned about resolution. The textures are 2880 x 4320 pixels which means that on a 12 x 8 inch image, the textures print at 360 dpi )

• IMPORTANT: All textures are standard jpeg files that will work with both Adobe Photoshop and Elements (all versions of both programs). My textures will ALSO work with the FREE program GIMP. Here is a link to download it & a link to see the tutorial. Note: Members of my Facebook JD Textures Group have also told me that the textures work in PSP, but I have not personally used this program so purchase at your own risk (or just grab a freebie and check it out for yourself).

• My textures will NOT work with Lightroom, Picnic or any other photo editing programs except for those listed above.

• Payment is required via Paypal and once your payment clears, you will automatically be redirected to a site where you can download your textures.

• The files come compressed in .zip format. There are many free unzip programs for both Mac & Windows that will allow you to expand the files once they've been downloaded.

JD Illumination Textures, Vol. 1

JD Illumination Textures are different from my other packs in a couple of ways. While there are 25 unique, high resolution textures as in Texture Packs 1-4, Illuminations also offer a second take on each texture by having it available in both warm and cool tones* for a total of 50 textures.

These textures are available for $35 USD.

Most textures in the JD Illumination Texture pack were created with new texture users in mind -- I created simpler, less contrasty interiors and easy-to-integrate tones. Seasoned texture users will enjoy them because they pop color and contrast but are simple enough to use that they don't take a lot of time to tweak. These textures will work well for softer subject matter - boudoir, newborn and families.

Here are some details: The templates include 3 options for covers, 2 options for backs and 2 options for inside layouts for 5x7 folded cards. Each option can also be adjusted to create a warm brown or a warm purple background tone. Design elements such as angels, decorative corners and stars are removable. Each with "Merry Christmas" or "Season's Greetings" messages and has a Christmas-themed and more general holiday-themed quote on the interior as well. The files are provided in both 5 x 7 and 4 x 5.5 vertical formats. All files are provided full size at 300 dpi and are built in Photoshop.

Featured Artist Spotlight: Angelina Buswell

Back in May, one of my very favorite photography blogs, The Maternal Lens and I collaborated on a fun photo challenge for JD Textures users — a contest where photographers demonstrated their unique creativity in integrating textures into their photos. There was a tremendous response and hundreds of votes cast. It was a huge honor and thrill to see all the beautiful work. The photos were narrowed down to the top ten by fan votes, then a panel of judges selected the winner from those finalists.

I am arguably one of the biggest Jessica Drossin fans in existence and I am so excited to be featured on her blog ! Each one of her textures is an unique piece of art that combined with my photos, gives me infinite possibilities. It is an honor to be featured by an artist whose work has been so inspiring to me.

Nothing has catapulted my love of photography more than having children. I love to capture those simple fleeting moments in their lives. For me, photography is my artistic outlet, and being an at-home-mom and homeschool teacher of three young children-- boy do I need an outlet!

In my opinion, more than anything else, photography is about telling a story. I think it is the photojournalist in me that enjoys using my lens to give a narrative. If I can create an image that people can connect with on an emotional level, I have done my job. My roots in photography started in journalism and I think that will always be evident in my work.

I've been wanting to introduce a Featured Artist section here on my textures blog for some time and I'm super-excited to be able to finally get it started.

There are some amazing artists utilizing my textures in their work and they inspire me, and I felt that they would also serve as an inspiration to you. These artists use my textures differently than I do (and frankly, often better), and I wanted to create a gallery to showcase their amazing work.

This gallery is not designed as a before / after or to share the Featured Artist's processing secrets. Please do not contact the photographers asking for tips and information (unless they are a professional mentor or workshop provider, and then, of course, by all means sign up for their services and ask away)!

My sister, Gina Kolsrud is an amazing photographer and artist. She inspired me to start taking photographs and continues to make my jaw drop whenever I see her work. When I decided that I'd like to do an artist spotlight, I knew that I wanted to profile her first.

Gina creates the most magical blend of natural and ethereal... Her work is incredibly emotional and free. She has a signature style and an eye for composition, light and color that is truly awe-inspiring.

Here are fixes to the most common download issues:

Q. When I try to open the jpegs in photoshop, I keep getting a message that says "invalid jpeg marker".

A. On some Windows machines, using certain types of uncompression software, a duplicate "reference file" of each texture is created. These files are not textures, just text files your computer has made to document the download. The textures themselves are labeled with .jpg and the tutorial ends with .pdf.
Often, these "reference files" are at the top of the folder and you may need to scroll down to find the texture .jpg files.

JD Illumination Textures contains fifty .jpg files and one tutorial .pdf file.

JD Texture packs have a minimum of twenty-five .jpg files and one tutorial .pdf file.

Q. My files seem to be corrupted. Nothing opens.

A. If the issue directly above isn't the problem, it's probably due to the fact that the file corrupted during the download process. It can happen depending on how busy ejunkie is on a certain day or how efficient your Internet provider's bandwidth is at the time of download. If you're locked out of downloads, simply contact me and I'll re-activate your link.

First, let me say how utterly grateful I am for all the fabulous entries to the JD Illumination Textures, V2 - FREE TEXTURE PHOTO CONTEST. Wow. That was a mouthful.

I really appreciate the willingness you all took in taking risks — it is always hard to feel like you're competing in art. I mean, it's completely subjective and it's your ART so it's a little nerve-racking. But it's also really important to remember that this is just for fun and it's a way to grow and challenge yourself. It's kind of amazing to see what so many different photographers can do with ONE texture. Mind-boggling in fact. It's also really important to note that this was the first time a lot of the contestants had EVER used a texture. I am so impressed. I have to say, I think the quality of the entries was extremely high. Kudos to you all. Thanks for making me look good :)

Please also let me express my HUGE THANKS to my friends at The Maternal Lens. I was beyond relieved when they graciously agreed to let me outsource my judging duties to them. From Jessica Paxson: I used brood (cool) in lighter color mode and again in soft light. I used my eraser on low opacity and erased over the texture on parts of her face, body, and around her.
